People Tree style event: outfit advice by Rewardrobe

Posted in events, fashion, news, shopping on Thursday, April 19th, 2012

People Tree are a brand I have huge respect for: true pioneers of Fairtrade, they were making ethical clothes before I even knew there was a Slow Fashion movement.

So it is with great pleasure that I’ve been asked to collaborate with them for an ethical fashion ‘do’ they are setting up for this weekend.

On Friday evening, they’ll be starting the weekend off in style, with bubbly and free, delicious Divine chocolate.

And on Saturday, I’ll be at hand for a spot of personal style advice, to help pick the best pieces from this generous sample sale, and send a few ladies (and gents!) off home with a smile on their faces.

Extreme styling with a cause!

Posted in fashion on Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

At Rewardrobe, one of our goals is to help people maximise the use of their wardrobe through styling, creating several outfits out of just a few garments.

So imagine our admiration for Sheena Matheiken, the ‘extreme stylist’ behind The Uniform Project. She has pledged to wear the same dress for one year, as an exercise in sustainable fashion, and as a fundraising campaing for the Akanksha Foundation, which will provide schoolchildren in India with uniforms and coverage for their schooling fees.

Not only this is a wonderful cause, it’s also carried out as the coolest and most interesting fashion excercise!

The dress was designed by Eliza Starbuck. Sheena says: “We took inspiration from one of my staple dresses, improving upon the shape and fit to add on some seasonal versatility. The dress is designed so it can be worn both ways, front and back, and also as an open tunic. It’s made from a durable, breathable cotton, good for New York summers and good for layering in cooler seasons. There are 7 identical dresses, one for each day of the week. Every day I will reinvent the dress with layers, accessories and all kinds of accouterments, the majority of which will be vintage, hand-made, or hand-me-down goodies.”

The public is invited to follow the project through their website, and to donate accessories that Sheena can incorporate into one of her 365 outfits. A wonderful way for somebody to pass on some accessory they no longer wear – and possibly see them pictured in one of the daily posts with the latest outfit.

We say: get following this amazing project now! We certainly can learn a thing or two about creative styling here…
